Campus Crime Report
The following is a partial report of campus crime between Nov. 2 and Wednesday. All information is selected from the files of the UH Police Department. The information in italics indicates when the event was reported to UHPD and the event's location. Information or questions regarding the cases below should be directed to UHPD at (713) 743-0600.
Failure to stop and give information: 5:24 p.m. Nov. 2, 4300 block of Cullen Boulevard -- A staff member reported a vehicle struck his while he was driving north on Cullen Boulevard. The driver of the striking vehicle failed to stop and provide the information required by law. An investigation is under way.
Theft: 11:20 a.m. Nov. 3, University Bookstore -- A visitor was taken into custody for the theft of crackers, beef and cheese sticks and was taken to Ben Taub General Hospital's neuropsychiatry ward after displaying abnormal behavior.
Theft: 10:19 a.m. Nov. 5, Parking Lot 19E -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) stole a UH parking meter from Lot 19E between 11:45 a.m. Nov. 4 and 10:19 a.m. Nov. 5.
Robbery: 10:32 p.m. Nov. 5, Parking Lot 9C -- A student reported he had been robbed and provided UH police with a description of the suspect, who was seen in a parking lot at 3500 Elgin Ave. a few minutes later. The suspect was arrested and placed in Harris County Jail after being identified by the student.
Criminal mischief: 9:46 p.m. Nov. 6, Parking Lot 1A residents' area -- A student reported an unknown person(s) broke out the rear passenger-side window of his parked vehicle, but no property was missing from the vehicle. Occurred between 8:30 and 9:45 p.m.
Theft: 12:50 p.m. Monday, M.D. Anderson Memorial Library first floor -- A student reported an unknown person(s) stole her backpack and its contents between 12:30 and 12:40 p.m.
Theft: 4:06 p.m. Monday, Taub Hall third floor -- A student reported she left cash in a desk drawer and went to an event Nov. 6; when she checked on the money Monday, she found $60 missing. A guest was staying in the room at the time. An investigation is under way.
Criminal mischief: 10:03 p.m. Monday, Agnes Arnold Hall first floor -- A staff member reported seeing a fire hose on the ground at Agnes Arnold Hall. The hose was wet and leaking water, but there was no sign of fire in the area. Occurred before 9:40 p.m. Monday.
Driving while intoxicated: 3:28 a.m. Tuesday, 4700 block of Scott Street -- A visitor was stopped for running a red light and was found to be driving while intoxicated. Another visitor, who was a passenger, appeared highly intoxicated. Both were arrested and transported to Harris County Jail.
Theft: 9:53 a.m. Tuesday, Farish Hall fourth floor -- Staff members reported an unknown person(s) stole a UH-owned laptop computer from their unattended, secured office, which showed no signs of forced entry, between 5:30 p.m. Nov. 5 and 8:30 a.m. Monday.
Theft: 9:46 p.m. Tuesday, Hofheinz Pavilion -- A staff member reported an unknown person(s) stole 36 rolls of toilet paper from the men's and women's rest rooms at Hofheinz between 4 p.m. Monday and 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
Theft: 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, Law Center -- A student reported a laptop computer she left unattended in the wireless computer lab was stolen between 3:30 p.m. Tuesday and 7 a.m. Wednesday.
Theft: 1:08 p.m. Tuesday, Parking Lot 12A -- A student reported three hubcaps were stolen from her parked, unattended vehicle in Lot 12A. A witness said he saw two unknown males stealing the hubcaps. An investigation is under way.
Arson: 11:25 a.m. Wednesday, Moores School of
Music first floor -- A trash can was intentionally set on fire with
a cigarette lighter, damaging the carpet and trash can. An investigation
resulted in the arrest of a student. Occurred between 11 p.m. Tuesday and
10 a.m. Wednesday.
