Saturday grill-off heats up game
Charcoal Challenge asks students to show their culinary talent
By Mandie Burnett
The Frontier Fiesta Board is urging Cougar fans to light up their grills for the Charcoal Challenge, a grill-off before Saturday's football game against Louisville.
The event, held in conjunction with the Houston Alumni Organization's chili cookoff, is aimed at opening Fiesta to more of the campus community.
"We are hoping that the Charcoal Challenge will give us greater exposure to a wide audience and will, thus, increase the diversity at Frontier Fiesta 2005," Fiesta Chairman Marc Iacono-Harris said.
The cookoff will take place near the alumni tent outside Robertson Stadium. Several student and faculty groups will participate; anyone is welcome, and there is no limit on how many people can be in a group.
The entry fee is $15 per category: chicken, ribs, fajitas, gumbo and chili. The Fiesta board, Council of Ethnic Organizations members and staff and alumni will judge the entries and hand out awards.
Charcoal Challenge proceeds will benefit Frontier Fiesta.
For more information or to join, call (713) 743-5181
or visit the Fiesta office in the University Center Underground today or
find the Challenge on the west side of Robertson Stadium Saturday. The
event will begin at 1 p.m.
