ITSC finds new home in PGH

Temporary relocation leaves IT users happy about easy transition

The Information Technology Support Center, which is based in the basement of the M.D. Anderson Library, has temporarily relocated into Philip Guthrie Hoffman Hall because of renovations in the library. 

ITSC moved into its temporary relocation earlier this month and will remain there at least until the beginning of the spring semester.

"(Renovations of the center are to) replace the 50-year-old heating, ventilation and air conditioning," Manager of ITSC James McGee said.

ITSC moved into Room 116, PGH, between the end of the summer semester and start of the fall semester to facilitate fall needs.

"The switch to PGH occurred without interruption in services," McGee said. "We planned carefully and overlapped service between the old and new locations. Moving during the week between semesters also helped to minimize disruption."

Business sophomore Elizabeth Reis recently visited the new facilities in PGH and was happy with the service.

"It was great. I didn't have to wait at all like I thought," she said. "All the services were working properly."

There were a few glitches that occurred during the move, McGee said. 

"It took longer than we expected to line up the movers ... to tear down, move and install the modular furniture," McGee said.

McGee also said that a portion of the sidewalk in ITSC's moving path also caused a problem, as did pressure washing of the exterior of PGH.

"(But) the move did go smoothly in the end," he said.

So far the department has received positive comments about the switch from students, McGee said.
