from top companies

More than 120 companies will be in attendance to recruit students for jobs and internships during the Bauer College of Business Spring Career Fair from 1:30 to 6 p.m. on Thursday on the second floor of the University Hilton.

The career fair is open to students from all majors, but the focus is on business students.

"Our goal is to increase the number and quality of job and internship opportunities available to Bauer students," Jamie Belinne, executive director of the Rockwell Career Services Center at the Bauer College, said.

Students will have an array of corporations with which they can network, including major players from the energy sector, financial institutions, international accounting and consulting firms. Several other prominent companies are also scheduled to participate.

Accounting senior Omar Qureishy said he plans to capitalize on the opportunity to interact with major companies and organizations.

"It's a good opportunity to meet recruiters and get my résumé out to everyone," said Qureishy. "The fair allows you to see a variety of corporations and what they do and vice versa for employers."

This fair will be the largest ever for Bauer College, which has seen a growth in fair attendance since 2002. Organizations present will include the city of Houston, Continental Airlines and ExxonMobil.

"It's definitely makes a solid impression," finance senior Mujtaba Habib said.

He says he plans to seek out financial firms such as JPMorgan Chase and hopes making a solid impression will get him an interview. Habib, who is considering a career as a financial analyst, also sees an opportunity in the oil and gas sector.

"My main preparation for the fair is to just look at several companies and research them in advance," he said. "There's going to be a lot of competition, so being prepared is a must."
