President of SGA opens doors again

Dawona Miller
Guest Columnist

I would like to inform students of one of the Student Government Associationis many accomplishments this year.

SGA has been working with students and the administration to incorporate the first fall commencement for the College of Liberal Arts and Social Sciences.

It was a cause some thought not worth the fight, but with the support of the SGA and many in the UH administration, CLASS was able to promise a graduation ceremony for this semester.

This goes to show fighting for a cause that is right often pays off.

That said, if you have any concerns, please do not hesitate to get Student Government involved because the 39th administration is here to serve you in whatever capacity necessary.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank CLASS Dean John Antel and the key students involved who helped make this a success.

Sarah Astinall, Samira Zaidi and Felipe Cortes worked diligently in the matter.

My administration worked closely with Mr. Cortes, Ms. Zaidi and Ms. Astinall to make a fall graduation ceremony possible this year for CLASS graduates.

A few months ago, I invited Mr. Cortes to accompany me to a meeting with the Associate Vice Chancellor/Vice President of Academic Affairs Edward P. Sheridan.

At the meeting, Mr. Cortes was able to share his concerns to the administration regarding the fall graduation ceremony.

In an effort to let the student body know of this major concern, my administration unanimously passed a resolution in support of the CLASS fall graduation ceremony.

I will also like to thank Sarah Fishman, associate dean for undergraduate studies in CLASS, and the UH Administration for working closely with Mr. Cortes and Ms. Zaidi in making sure CLASS would have a fall graduation ceremony this year.

My advice to all students is this: if you have any issue or concern, please feel free to contact the SGA. We are here to serve you and get you through closed doors.

My administration is always ready to take on a task, no matter the size, to make this campus a better place for you and me.

Once again, I open the SGA doors to all of you.
