New logo embraces evolving college

Technology student wins design contest for innovative emblem

Cougar News Services

The College of Technology has a new logo thanks to Stacy Mattison, a senior technology leadership and supervision major.

Mattison's design -- a text-based logo with a stylized red E in "Technology" -- won from more than 25 entries in a logo design contest held in the fall.

"Jerry Waite (coordinator of graphic communication technology) deserves credit for his encouragement," Mattison said in a release. "I was juggling a full load during the fall semester, and it left me little time to add an additional project."

Mattison's prizes were a Tungsten T5 personal digital assistant and a pass to park in a lot behind the Technology Building.

She has more than 12 years' experience as a project manager, print and online designer. Mattison will graduate in May.

"My long-term plans are to embrace the evolving technological demographics for the next 10 years and beyond," Mattison said in a release. "Adapting to keep myself marketable is key."

The logo has already been added to the college's Web site, www.tech.uh.edu, and it will be used in a new marketing campaign this spring.

Later, the logo will be used on a variety of college items, from brochures to T-shirts and pens.
